050: How to Change the World - 3 Types of Radical Advocacy with JARED ANGAZA

How to change the world with 3 types of radical advocacy

Let's dig deep into the subject of Philanthropy today. We've got Jared Angaza with us who is a strategist and philanthropist. There was just something about him and how he's putting himself out into the world that made me want him on the show. I think you'll appreciate his perspective and genuine passion for compassion as much as I do.

Jared lived and worked full time in East Africa for over a decade before moving to Costa Rica for the past year and a half. Now he and his family are living in his hometown of Nashville, TN as they prepare to launch a few of their latest philanthropic ventures.

For 20 years Jared has created strategies, brands, campaigns, events and teachings that help us re-imagine philanthropy and transform perspectives. Jared coaches and consults for individuals, brands and governments across the globe and is on a quest to contribute to a more harmonious world.

In today's conversation he and I discuss some of the bravery he's witnessed and been a part of first and second hand in the realm of advocacy and philanthropy. He also shares with us 3 Pillars of Philanthropy, all of which we can accomplish without having to leave our hometown by the way. And we also discuss how important it is to learn how to observe the pain around us.

I'm really grateful that I get to share conversations like this with you, especially today. Our world needs more of this kind of bravery and I'm so pleased Jared joined us to talk about it all.

Brave Take-Aways

Such a wonderful selection of topics. I really hoped you enjoyed that as much as I did. As with every interview episode on Bare Naked Bravery, today you've got a Brave Take-Away, something you can do today to implement some of the things we discussed from today's show... Today's Brave Take-Away is to do 3 things based around Jared's 3 pillars of philanthropy.

  • Do one thing that eases pain for yourself or others.
  • Do one thing to observe pain within yourself or others.
  • Do one thing which addresses the root cause of the pain of yourself or others.

They don't have to be big, audacious acts - just small steps in the right direction. Maybe it's giving yourself permission to take a bubble bath. Maybe it's having a conversation and listening to someone's pain. Maybe it's getting dirty and crossing something off the "honey-do" list for your spouse. Again, just simple small acts of brave philanthropy.

I know Jared would love to hear all about your favorite parts of today's Bare Naked Bravery. You can find Jared Angaza and myself on facebook, twitter, instagram, and more. I just ask that you be sure to tag us so we can cheer you on and see what you're up to.
