012: Building Creative Bunkers, Ripping Out The Pacifier, and Shaking Snowglobes with Kye Alfred Hillig

Building Creative Bunkers, Ripping Out The Pacifier, and Shaking Snowglobes with Kye Alfred Hillig

Welcome to Part 2 of our conversation with Kye Alfred Hillig!

Now, if you're just tuning in and haven't listened to part 1 yet, I highly encourage that you press pause on this and go listen to that first. You won't regret it.

So just as a clarification, I very much spontaneously put Kye on the spot to flip the script and become the interviewer for a bit. He and I know each other pretty well, so I knew he'd have an interesting view-point.

Again, if you don't consider yourself an artist or songwriter, please soak this up. I promise you will get a TON out of it. I know Kye would agree with me when I say this, but songs are just another lens through which we can experience truth. and truth is universal. Hence the reason why this episode most definitely applies to you too.

Okay! Let's just jump right on in! Shall we?

That guy. Laying on the truth-telling super thick.

I know that everyone loves the cello, but hearing him calling it a creative pacifier is pretty stinkin' accurate. Getting it ripped out of my life really was one of the best things that could've happened for my expression. and I'm not the kind of person who thinks that going through the wringer is a prerequisite to making art. It's not. I really do think expression is a choice, and acting upon our choices is not a thing done out of victimization. But sometimes we really do need to get a bit jostled and have someone shake our little snow globe to remind us of what is.

I am so grateful to Kye for not only joining us today, but also for writing snow-globe-shaking songs that prompt us to see things the way they really are.

In both parts of this conversation, Kye mentioned a couple books and other things, you'll find links to all those and some of my personal favorite songs of his in the show notes which you can find by going to BareNakedBravery.com
